James Leslie Hooks, 76, of the 100 block of York Drive, a retired supervisor, died Aug. 20, 1994, in his residence.
He was a native of Wayne County, N.C., a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from U.S. Gypsum after 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis B. Hooks; a daughter, Brenda H. O'Quinn of Portsmouth; two sons, Dennis R. Hooks of Norfolk and Leslie Neil Hooks of Henderson, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fairview Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Ted Barton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
