SCHOOLS WILL OPEN FRIDAY IN DARE WITH A FULL DAY

Dare County Schools will begin the 1994-95 academic year Friday with a full day of classes.

The Friday opening is unusual, but Dare County Director of School and Community Relations Kathy M. Newbern said the Friday opening was necessary in order to meet the state mandate of 180 school days within a specific calendar period, as well as all holidays and teacher workshop days.

Hours for students on Friday will vary from school to school. Manteo Elementary School will hold classes from 8:25 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Manteo Middle School, First Flight Middle School and Manteo High will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

First Flight Elementary will hold classes from 8:50 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.; Kitty Hawk School from 8 a.m. until 2:30, and Cape Hatteras School will hold classes from 8:15 to 3:01 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:15 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. on Fridays. The Hatteras Enrichment Center will be open until 3:01 p.m. on Fridays and the Homework Center until 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Faculty and staff members are scheduled to meet this morning at 9 a.m. at Hatteras School.

Motorists are urged to use caution as school buses hit still-crowded roads. by CNB
