Police on Monday peacefully ended a two-hour standoff with an armed 16-year-old boy who threatened to kill himself in a parking lot after officers approached him.
A negotiator persuaded the teen to give up shortly before 6 p.m. The boy was taken into custody uninjured. He was not identified because of his age.
Police spokesman Mike Carey said the standoff began about 4 p.m. when two officers went looking for the teen in the Twin Canal area near the Green Run section. Authorities had earlier issued a ``pick-up order'' for the teen because of a probation violation.

The officers backed off and called for help and police negotiators. The teen fired once into the ground, but Carey said the shot may have been an accident.
During the standoff, the teen accepted a cigarette from a crowd of bystanders. He fiddled with the gun as he sat on the hood of a parked car.
