As one who spent four glorious years in Chapel Hill during the 1930s, I'd be the last one to contest its being No. 1 to live in.
On the other hand, as one who has been coming to Sandbridge for the summer since 1956, and visiting Norfolk and Virginia Beach since the early '30s - plus more than a year minesweeping out of Little Creek - I find the placement of the Hampton Roads area by Money magazine to be ludicrous at best.
This is a wonderful place to live in every way - recreation, a splendid opera company and excellent theater company - which I can attest to, having served on site evaluation committees for the National Endowment for the Arts theater and opera-music theater panels. Your airport is superb, with an approach that even surpasses Singapore. The housing and neighborhoods are attractive - and the Navy is here.
You should be in the top 10.
