By definition, a Republican is the political description of someone who balances social responsibilities with fiscal accountability, moral and ethical integrity with tolerance and understanding, and the unwavering desire to serve the public trust. I speak as a Republican who is an unpaid volunteer and regional coordinator for Marshall Coleman's U.S. Senate campaign.
Sen. John Warner, in the opinion of Virginia Republican voters, has demonstrated these qualities throughout 15 years of legislative service.
What makes Pat McSweeney think he can decide who is a Virginia Republican and who is not? The small group that McSweeney represents has made an error in judgment he would like all Virginia Republicans to share.
Along with John Warner, I refuse to support the disreputable candidate that McSweeney and his gang have chosen.
Organized intimidation and manipulation of the party-selection process is not representative to Republican ideals and principles, although they characterize Pat McSweeney's party leadership. If it is still unclear as to whether Senator Warner should be considered a Republican, simply ask Bill Clinton.
