JAMES P. KEEFE

James P. Keefe, 74, died Aug. 19, 1994, at Mercy Care Life Center after a long illness.

Mr. Keefe was born in Norfolk, Va., to the late James and Mae Stapleton Keefe. He formerly lived in Poughkeepsie, Saugerties and Kingston, N.Y. and Boynton Beach, Fla.

He served in the United States Army, 45th Infantry Division, during World War II, having received a field promotion to Captain. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Cluster, the Silver Star for Bravery and the French Croix de Guerre for service during the North African and Italian campaigns.

He was employed by IBM from 1947 to 1977, serving for many years as manager of plant protection at IBM's Kingston facility.

He was a founding member of the Saugerties Democratic Club and was active in Saugerties politics for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Hankinson Keefe of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a son, Thomas Keefe of Albany; two daughters, Karen Keefe of Kingston and Mary (Betty Keefe) Petramale of Saugerties; two step-daughters, Diane Greiner of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Shirley Bishop of Boca Raton, Fla.; three grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, James, and two sisters, Lucille and Dorothy.
