Carrie I. Sorrell of the 800 block of Williamsburg Ave., died Aug. 23, 1994, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.
Mrs. Sorrell was born in Richmond County, Va. She was a former member of First Baptist Church Gilmerton, Chesapeake, and the widow of David Sorrell.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary V. Stephenson of Newport News, and Magdalene C. Knight and Mildred C. Basnight, both of Virginia Beach; three sons, William A. Sorrell Sr., George L. Sorrell Sr., and John L. Sorrell Sr., all of Portsmouth; two brothers, James Jackson of Crisfield, Md., and Richard Jackson of Downing, Va.; 34 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a devoted companion, Howard Reed. She was predeceased by two sons, David B. Sorrell and James C. Sorrell Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Gilmerton by the Rev. Edward Smith and the Rev. Walter A. Butts. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday. The family will be at the home of William A. Sorrell, 1406 Cavalier Blvd., Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the funeral service.
