CAMPAIGN KICKOFF

The Albemarle Area United Way will formally kick off its annual pacesetter campaign on Sept. 15.

Earlier this month, 16 of the area's leading companies held a breakfast, hosted by Albemarle Hospital, to start the annual fundraiser.

These organizations will help the Albemarle United Way fund 20 area non-profit agencies that provide community services in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.

Participating companies last year raised more than $55,000.

This year's contributors include the hospital, Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce, Friskies PetCare, Albemarle Regional Cancer Treatment Center, BB&T, Belk and Centura Bank.

Other contributing businesses and organizations are the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Schools, First Citizens Bank, First Union National Bank, J C Penney, Sykes & Co., Taylor Mueller Realty, Wachovia Bank, Westinghouse Airship and Wheat First Butcher Singer. by CNB
