A 22-year Norfolk man pleaded guilty to accidentally shooting a teenager to death last year while showing off a handgun in his home.
Jason C. Ferguson was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Thursday in a plea agreement. The victim, 16-year-old Charles Eric Walker of Virginia Beach, was shot once in the head on Sept. 30, 1993, at Ferguson's home in the 3500 block of Westminster Ave.
Ferguson also was found guilty of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. As part of the plea agreement, Ferguson agreed to a five-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter and five years on the marijuana charge.
Both sentences would run concurrently.
Walker and two other friends were visiting when Ferguson showed them a 9mm handgun, court records show. The gun discharged, striking Walker once above the right eye.
Ferguson's official sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 6.
