SPORTS EDITOR'S NOTEBOOK

HITTING SCHOOL: Bobby McKinney, a scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates, will be holding a hitting school for players 10-18 years old. Space is limited to 10 players in the four sessions, so early registration is encouraged. The fee is $65. A weekend camp might be added if there is enough interest.

Each player will receive 10 hours of hands-on instruction. Strength and weight training will be discussed, along with off-season routines and exercises.

The registration fee entitles each player to a camp T-shirt, personal evaluation by the camp's instructors and a videotape analysis of their batting swing.

The four clinics are scheduled for the following dates and times: Sept. 12-16; Sept. 19-23; Sept. 26-30; and Oct. 3-7 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. daily at the baseball field behind Churchland High School in Portsmouth.
