MARGARET W. JOHNSON

Margaret Emily Watson Johnson, 77, a resident of Severn, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 1994 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

She was the widow of Rufus D. Johnson Sr. Her parents were the late John Sherrod and Effa Parker Watson. Mrs. Johnson had a lifelong interest in painting and was a well known local watercolorist. She was a member of Severn United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Severn Woman's Club and a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Sue ``Peggy'' J. Odom of Severn; two sons, R. Don Johnson Jr. of Murfreesboro and Joel Watson Johnson of Greenville, N.C.; grandsons, Ken, Richard and Jason Odom; grandson, Scott Johnson; granddaughter, Emily Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Lynn Woodard Johnson.

A funeral service will be held in Severn United Methodist Church on Monday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Vern Womack and the Rev. Randolph Phillips. Burial will be in Severn Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at noon Monday. The family will receive friends at the residence from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Severn United Methodist Church, Severn, N.C. 27877.
