WORLD WAR II PLANES TO BE DISPLAYED AT AIRPORT

The Old Dominion Squadron of the Confederate Air Force will sponsor a display of World War II aircraft at the Hampton Roads Airport from Tuesday through Monday, Sept. 5.

The display will include some of the rarest planes in the flying museum's inventory, including a German Heinkel 111, a twin-engine bomber of the type used to attack London during the battle of Britain. It is the only one still flying.

Also on display will be a Lockheed C-60 Loadestar, a transport used for paratroopers and gliders in Europe during the war; a BT-13, a basic trainer; a SN-J, a single engine Navy trainer from World War II; a PT-23, a twin-engine trainer; a UC-78 Bobcat, a utility aircraft made of fabric and wood; and tentatively, B-25 Mitchell bomber.

The planes are part of the Confederate Air Force's inventory. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to keeping World War II planes in flying condition.

The airport is off U.S. 58 just past the intersection of Interstate 264, I-64 and I-664. Admission is $3 per adult. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. The show will be open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. by CNB
