Your newspaper listed on Aug. 19 several U.S. congressmen who were for sale and accepted National Rifle Association money for their votes on the crime bill. The list contained none from Virginia. Some of the amounts were for a couple thousand dollars. It is hard to visualize a Virginia congressman selling his soul for such a cheap mess of porridge.
Just for fun, and in an effort to find a match, let us stack one of our own up against some of the unsavory and devious acts often committed by some congressmen and Congress hopefuls. For instance, could you, in your wildest dreams, ever imagine that you could match Chuck Robb with one of the following:
1. Lying to Congress?
2. Lying to two presidents?
3. Using taxpayer money to build a fence around his home?
4. Accepting endorsement from the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and the National Rifle Association?
5. Selling his vote?
If you find no match, then you must be well on your way to concluding that in Chuck Robb we have a senator who is head and shoulders above the pack. And as for me and my household, we will continue to support him in that exalted position.
