The plight of Rochelle Ferro of Norfolk, her many animals and her hefty boarding fees is indeed a sad one.
The fact is that 30 animals were cared for, fed and medicated at the Norfolk SPCA for more than 50 days. The animals were placed in the care of the SPCA by the Norfolk Division of Animal Protection. The boarding fees for this care are determined by the city of Norfolk and owed to the city of Norfolk, not to the Norfolk SPCA.
The Norfolk SPCA has received numerous requests that we free the Ferro animals and deal with the financial aspect at a later date. Quite frankly, we have no control of the matter.
Our concern is for the proper care of these animals now and in the future.
