Lucy Zaleski, Norfolk's top teacher in 1993-94, has been named the Region II Virginia Teacher of the Year and is among eight finalists vying to win the state teaching title.
Region II encompasses 15 city and county school districts in southeastern Virginia, including Suffolk, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Hampton and Newport News.
Zaleski's selection marks the first time a Norfolk teacher has won the Region II honor, Norfolk schools officials said. She teaches sixth grade at Azalea Gardens Middle. The state winner will be announced at a Sept. 30 banquet. by CNB
