Martha Modlin Shackelford, 76, of the 200 block of Bedford Place, a retired cashier, died Aug. 31, 1994, in Belhaven, N.C.
Mrs. Shackelford was born in Hobbsville, N.C., daughter of the late Fannie Elizabeth Early Modlin and Henry Newton Modlin. She was retired from Peoples Drug Store. She was the widow of Edwin Beale Shackelford and a member of Great Fork Baptist Church, Suffolk.
Survivors include a daughter, Libby S. Jones of Suffolk; two sisters, Thelma M. Smith of Norfolk and Geneva M. Jones of Suffolk; and a brother, Charlie Overton of Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Thomas R. Edwards. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today and suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
