Emmett Horace Alexander of the 1000 block of Alexander Lane, a retired master crane operator, died Aug. 29, 1994, in Chesapeake General Hospital.
Mr. Alexander was born in Norfolk County on May 6, 1912. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 25 years. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church for 70 years and was a member of the Trustee Board. He was also a Sunday School teacher and secretary of the Sunday School, Senior Usher and president of the Usher Board for 30 years. He was president of the PTA Council for Bells Mill Elementary School and member of Bells Mill Dawson Town Civic League.
Survivors include his wife, Essie Mae Alexander; daughters, Corene Roberts, Carolyn Alexander and Sharon Copeland, all of Chesapeake; sons, Dr. Raymond Alexander of Chesapeake, Enoch Alexander of Norfolk and Ledell Alexander of Midland, Mich.; brothers, Elmer Alexander, Albert Tilton Alexander and the Rev. James Alexander, all of Chesapeake; 16 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins, many other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church by the Rev. Kim Brown. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
