Investigators are still trying to determine what caused a fire aboard a beached tugboat on the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River on Tuesday night.
The fire is thought to have been accidental, said Fire Chief Carl Welch on Wednesday.
The fire broke out aboard the Parris Island as a work crew dismantled it behind Riverside Memorial Park, Welch said.
``They were cutting it up for scrap,'' Welch said.
The property where the boat was beached is owned by the city of Norfolk, Welch said, but the work was being done by a private company.
The fire was reported at 8:30 p.m. and was extinguished by about 10:30 p.m., a Fire Department spokesman said. No injuries were reported.
