A Smithfield man was killed Friday afternoon when he lost control of his car on Route 32, state police reported.
James L. Goodman, 32, was thrown from his 1993 Ford Escort when the auto hit a tree, said Tammy Van Dame, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police.
Goodman was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Van Dame said. He was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and died about an hour later.
