RICHMOND - About 29 percent of Virginia companies plan to hire workers in the fourth quarter, said Manpower Inc.'s survey.
Expectations are highest in Richmond. Manpower said 37 percent of the Richmond firms surveyed plan to hire staff in the fourth quarter, while 13 percent plan to cut staff. IBM to cut 50 jobs
RALEIGH - IBM Corp. will eliminate more than 50 jobs in its Personal Computer Co. division. The move was expected.
Layoff notices went to about 2,000 Personal Computer workers throughout the nation; 50 to 100 were in North Carolina's Triangle area, an IBM executive told The News & Observer of Raleigh.
CR Industries to add jobs
FRANKLIN, N.C - CR Industries will add 157 jobs in its oil seal production plant over the next three years.

GRAHAM, N.C. - Tredegar Industries Inc. plans to close a 128-employee packaging facility in Alsip, Ill., and relocate production in Graham.
The Graham plant will make injection-mold packaging components. Richmond-based Tredegar said it will record a charge of $1.3 million, or 12 cents a share, for the plant closing. by CNB
