Miss Elsie Russell Chandler, 91, a retired purchasing agent, died Sept. 2, 1994, in Portsmouth.
Miss Chandler was born in Urbanna, Va. She had retired from the Supply Department at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1965 after 35 years. She was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church, having sung in the church choir for many years. She also served as a pianist in the Sunday School Department and was member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Esther Chapter 37 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the daughter of the late Hattie Bentley Chandler and Edgar Russell Chandler, formerly of Urbanna, Va.
Survivors include a loving sister-in-law, Ruth Chandler of Portsmouth; two nephews, Russell L. Chandler and Calvin C. Chandler, both of Portsmouth; four great-nephews; and one great-niece.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. George Mullinax. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to the Endowment Fund of Western Branch Baptist Church, 4710 High St. West, Portsmouth.
