Because of blustery northeast winds, most boats entered in the annual Virginia Beach Marlin Tournament will not be able to get in their alloted two days of ocean fishing.
The contest opened Friday and runs through today, with the crew of each of the 27 registered boats permitted to fish any two days of its choice. No one was brave enough Sunday to challenge 35 mph winds and a turbulent ocean. Only one boat, the No Problem, fished Saturday, while just 11 made it out for Friday's opener.
Today's forecast is better than Sunday's but not by much, and there is a pretty good chance that some boats will not fish at all. The forecast calls for a wind shift from northeast to northwest, and subsiding from 25 knots to 20 knots.
Incidentally, the wahoo boated Saturday by the No Problem weighed 31 1/2 pounds, not 3 1/2, as reported. by CNB
