CELESTE G. HACKNEY

Celeste G. Hackney, 87, of the 1900 block of Brandon Ave., died Sept. 2, 1994, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mrs. Hackney was born in Baltimore, Md., and moved to Norfolk in 1945. She was retired past executive secretary of the American Cancer Society from 1952 to 1970. She was also past secretary for the Norfolk Downtown Kiwanis Club until 1992. She served as a volunteer in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Gift Shop from 1975 to 1980.

Survivors include three daughters and one son, Patricia Morford Hancock of Indianapolis, Ind., Shirley Morford Shaner, formerly of Richmond, Linda Hackney Leeker of Virginia Beach and Barry A. Hackney of Richmond; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her remains were donated to EVMS by her family. Memorial services will be at Christ & St. Luke's Church on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hampton Roads for the Voice Print Handicapped or Public Radio or TV WHRO-WHRV.
