JOHNNIE F. DUKE

Johnnie Frank Duke, 74, of the 100 block of S. 7th St., died Sept. 4, 1994, in Obici Hospital.

Mr. Duke was a native of Nansemond County, son of the late Pendleton and Minnie Duke. He had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a rigger mechanic. He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, vice chairman of the Deacon Board and member of Brotherhood Foundation, Sunday School, Bible Study Class, the Trustee Board and past master of Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge (NU)48, PHA. Mr. Duke was owner and operator of United Coach Co.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Reid Duke; a daughter, Verlia D. Artis of Suffolk; son and daughter-in-law, Jarvis T. Duke and Arlene Duke of Portsmouth; a sister, Odell Jackson of Riverside Calif.; four grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Metropolitan Baptist Church by Dr. Melvin R. Boone. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in church at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
