Steve Wilson Carter 38, entered eternal rest on Sept. 3, 1994, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
Steve was a native of Smithfield and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a volunteer coach at Smithfield High School, the Smithfield Recreation Association and a member of Brown's AME Church.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Carter; four sons, Steven A. Carter, Derek S. Carter, Brandon D. Carter and Darryl Bowden; his father, Leslie Carter Sr.; his mother, Frances Ballard Carter; and three sisters, Linda Spratley, Barbara Carter and Shenetta Diggs, all of Smithfield; three brothers, Leslie Carter Jr. of Hampton, Andrea Carter of Newport News and Fallando Carter of Smithfield; and a grandchild.
Viewing will be at Pretlow & Chapman Funeral Home, Smithfield, from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Brown's AME Church by the Rev. Queen Esther Snell. Burial with military honors pending. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends at 13472 Melissa Drive.
