Mrs. Ruby Burris Norris, 75, died on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1994.
She was a native of Stanly County, N.C., and a Peninsula resident for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Norris retired from the Newport News City School System as a teacher in 1984 after 43 years of service. She was a member of Orcutt Baptist Church and the Rebecca Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her daughter, Polly N. Davis and her husband, J. Malcolm Davis, of Newport News; her son, Lowell R. ``Bob'' Norris III and his wife, Violet P. Norris, of Virginia Beach; her brother, Grant H. Burris of Newport News; and four grandchildren, Cheryl L. Lockhart and her husband, Pete Lockhart of Avery, Calif., Jennifer L. Norris of Virginia Beach and Michelle D. Davis and Patrick Wayne Davis, both of Newport News.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Peninsula Memorial Park by the Rev. James Doyle of Orcutt Baptist Church, assisted by Mr. Stan Putney of Parkview Baptist Church. The family will be at the residence of Mrs. Norris. If you have considered sending flowers or food, please instead take it to someone who is homebound and tell them that God loves them. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
