3 TEENS WOUNDED IN NORFOLK DRIVE-BY SHOOTING TWO 17-YEAR-OLDS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL; A THIRD REFUSED TREATMENT.

Three 17-year-old males were wounded in a drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon on Mapleton Avenue in Norfolk.

Police spokesman Larry Hill said two of the youths, Demarco Wells and Alondo Adams, were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries to their left sides. The third victim, James King, suffered a flesh wound and refused treatment. All three are residents of Norfolk.

The shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. while the youths were sitting in a blue Oldsmobile in front of a residence in the 2900 block of Mapleton near Balentine Boulevard. Police believe that an undetermined number of people drove by the car in a red, four-door Ford Tempo and opened fire. The Tempo, Hill said, had 30-day tags and a black stripe on its side.

Nearby residents said they heard numerous shots and either ran for cover or stayed inside.

``I heard some shots, but I didn't come out,'' said Willie Davis, 61, of 2921 Mapleton Ave. ``You don't come out when you hear shots around here.''

Lloyd Williams, 30, was in his back yard when the incident occurred. He managed to hop a fence and knock on his neighbor's door.

``I heard a few gunshots and that's when I started running,'' he said. ``I was locked out of my own house.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photo
