Dan Conley, press secretary for former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder,
admitted that Wilder misspoke in a debate Tuesday night when he
accused Oliver L. North of having flown on a plane with drugs.
Wilder stands by accusations that North tolerated drug smuggling by
pilots carrying arms to the Contra rebels in Nicaragua. A Page One
fact-check box Thursday mischaracterized Conley's retraction.
