WEEKEND

The Virginia Beach Neptune Festival opens with a roar with Saturday and Sunday air shows featuring Canada's precision military aerobatic team, the Snowbirds. The pilots, hailing from places like Saskatchewan, Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia, take their Canadair CT-114 Tutor aircraft through maneuvers like the doubletake, corkscrew, cloverleaf and downward burst. Also from the Great White North come the Sky Hawks, the Canadian Forces Parachute Team. What else? There'll be Mig-15 acrobatic shows, a jet truck called ``The Shockwave'' and hang gliders. Oh, and if you're in the vicinity at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, you won't be able to miss the F-14 and F-18 fly-by opening ceremony. It's from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at NAS Oceana (gates open at 8 a.m.). Free. The festival continues through Oct. 2 at various locations in Virginia Beach. 498-0215.

WEDNESDAY

Romance, revenge, adventure and enchantment - you'll find it all during ``Walt Disney's World On Ice: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'' at Hampton Coliseum. Meet Snow White and her handsome prince, the evil queen, Doc, Grumpy, Sleepy, Happy . . . And what would a Disney production be without Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and other Disney stars? Shows begin Wednesday and continue through Sept. 18. Tickets range from $9.50 to $13.50. 627-1440.

SATURDAY

Bad news: John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers have dropped out of Saturday's Elizabeth River Blues Festival. Good news: Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, who already were on the bill, are now headlining the daylong jam. Ed Williams calls his style of electric Chicago blues ``gut-buckin' music,'' and that no-frills, get-down definition fits. Ask anyone who saw him this summer in Virginia Beach. Local audiences will recognize the festival's other national acts - John Hammond and Duke Robillard, both of whom include Hampton Roads on their itineraries. A number of local acts round out the day. Hours: noon to 10 p.m. It's free. Call 461-0953 or 456-1675.
