The Virginia Marine Resources Commission sank a barge Thursday in an
inlet 8 miles off Wachapreague on the Eastern Shore to establish an
artificial fish reef. A Navy demolition team set up the charge that
sank the riprap-laden barge, which was donated by the Coast Guard,
but a tire was blown away from the area by the explosion.
