Dan Conley, press secretary for former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, admitted that Wilder misspoke in a debate Tuesday night when he accused Oliver L. North of having flown on a plane with drugs. Wilder stands by accusations that North tolerated drug smuggling by pilots carrying arms to the Contra rebels in Nicaragua. A Page One fact-check box Thursday mischaracterized Conley's retraction.

James B. Balaban, the Chesapeake resident charged Sept. 2 with possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute, was briefly detained by federal agents and searched on July 25 at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The agents confiscated $60,000 from Balaban. A MetroNews story Thursday incorrectly said Balaban had been arrested.

A company that provided backpacks with educational supplies to 350 Norfolk schoolchildren was not correctly identified in Thursday's newspaper. The full name is Price Club - a PriceCostco Warehouse. by CNB
