With reference to your editorial about auto inspections (``Make owners responsible,'' Aug. 31), I want to remind you why annual state automobile inspections were made mandatory: Many automobile owners were not responsible and did not maintain their automobiles in a safe operating condition. Do you want to trust your life and loved ones' lives to unknown automobile owners?
