FLORRIE C. NORRIS

Florrie Chaves Norris, 80, of the 3000 block of Reese Drive, a retired bookkeeper, died Sept. 8, 1994, in her residence.

She was a native of Savannah, Ga., and moved to Portsmouth at nine years of age. She retired from Old Dominion Paper Co. and had also worked at the law building in Norfolk. She was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Woman's Club of Cradock and the Fort Nelson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a docent at Portsmouth Naval Museum. She was an honorary board member of the Portsmouth-Chesapeake unit of the American Cancer Society and past member of the Virginia Society of Ornithology. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Norfolk Business College and studied accounting at William and Mary College in Norfolk. She taught the Bruner Class of Port Norfolk Baptist Church for 43 years and was best known in the area as a book reviewer for various clubs and organizations. She was the widow of Charles M. Norris and James E. Blick.

Survivors include a daughter, Kitty Sue Hannah, and a son, James E. Blick Jr., both of Portsmouth; a sister, Catherine Chaves of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Andrea Hannah, Kevin Hannah, Karen Hannah-Atanacio and Jennifer Blick Stone; and two great-grandchildren, Kristen Jones and Jordan Stone.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Port Norfolk Baptist Church by Dr. Ector L. Hamrick and Dr. S.E. ``Skip'' Hathaway. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to Port Norfolk Baptist Church.
