John Morton Abbitt Jr., 62, of the 900 block of West Princess Anne Road, vice president and trust officer of Nationsbank, died Sept. 12, 1994, in a local hospital.
Mr. Abbitt was born in Norfolk and was a member, and former member of the vestry and senior warden, of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Norfolk. Mr. Abbitt was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute. Mr. Abbitt received his law degree from Washington and Lee University and was a member of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association. He was a member of the Virginia Club, Harbor Club, Cedar Point Club, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club; Norfolk German Club, Pyramid Club and Tidewater Estate Planning Council.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Alfriend Abbitt of Norfolk; his mother, Elizabeth Harris Abbitt of Norfolk; four sons, John Morton Abbitt III of Norfolk, Robert Bolling Abbitt of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Jeffery Alfriend Abbitt of Virginia Beach, James Blair Abbitt of Norfolk; and six grandchildren, John Morton Abbitt IV; Rosemary Patricia Abbitt, Mariel Florence Abbitt, Anne-Randolph Wood, Sarah Catherine Abbitt and Joel Thomas Abbitt.
A graveside service will be conducted on Sept. 14, 1994, at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. Ross Wright. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
