Captain Henry Richard Dombrowski, USN (Ret.), a resident of Virginia Beach for the last 20 years, died Sept. 10, 1994 in Pensacola, Fla.
Capt. Dombrowski was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Salem, Mass. and served in the Navy for 30 years. He was a student at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif., and received a B.S. in engineering science. His Navy assignments included maintenance/line division officer for VS-27; traffic controller at RATIC SIX, NAS Quonset Point; safety officer for VS-36, VAW-12 and VAW-121; operations officer for AEW-12; aircraft handler on board the USS Intrepid (CVS-10); chief staff officer AEW Wing 12; executive officer and commanding officer of VAW-125; deputy ACOS of AIRWARFARE at OPTEVFOR; executive officer and senior inspector at Board of Inspection, Atlantic. He was a recipient of the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medal and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1958.
After retiring from the Navy in 1987, he worked for VITRO Corporation in Systems Engineering and Analysis. He retired from VITRO in 1992. Since 1992 he was active in several volunteer services including The Navy Family Services Center, Little Creek, and Military Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. He was an active member of the Flyer's Invitational Golf Association. He was recently elected vice president of the HAWKEYE Association and was a member of Sewells Point Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen M. Dombrowski; daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen M. Armstrong and Capt. Timothy T. Armstrong, USMC, of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Ann M. Dombrowski of Virginia Beach, and Amy P. Walls and Lt. Michael D. Walls, USN, of Monterey, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Tardiff of Marblehead, Mass.; his mother, Anna Dombrowski of Salem, Mass.; and grandchildren, Richard T. Armstrong and Mark H. Armstrong of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall Chapel, Kempsville, Virginia Beach.
