A 61-year-old Camden County man died when he was buried in a grain bin he was trying to clean.
Otis Lee Bowe of Sand Hills Road either slipped or was pulled down as corn gave way in the 60-foot-tall bin at F.P. Wood and Son on Sunday, Camden Sheriff's Deputy Wilton Forbes said Monday.
Bowe was buried beneath 10 to 12 feet of corn, about 1,500 to 2,500 bushels, Forbes said.
Rescue officials and co-workers struggling to save Bowe cut a hole in the bin to let the corn spill out. Bowe was pronounced dead at the scene.
``They tried to pull him out initially,'' Forbes said. ``There was no way to get to him.''
