THIS (REPUBLICAN) PICKETT'S A DEMOCRAT?

After reading the article by staff writer Dave Addis about the U.S. House of Representatives race (``Pickett running from Clinton,'' Sept. 2), I really can't see why Jim Chapman is running; we in the 2nd District already have a Republican congressman. His name is Owen Pickett. He votes Republican. The president has to entice moderate Republicans to support him because a Democrat I voted for won't stand firm with him in time of need.

Last week, Mr. Pickett sent out his report from Washington. It contained not one word on the crime bill, health care, the deficit, Cuba, Haiti, foreign policy. . . . The only thing in it was fluff about military programs.

Is Mr. Pickett aware of what's going on up there in Washington, or does he just show up to vote no? With Gingrich, Dole and Gramm up there, we don't need any more millstones around the neck of America.

So i'ts hello Jim Chapman and so long Owen Pickett. A family of five voting Democrats for Jim Chapman.
