Guy Estes Hollowell, 74, of Mark Drive died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1994 in Greenville, N.C.
A native of Chowan County, Mr. Hollowell was a son of the late Ernest Linwood Hollowell Sr. and Effie Parks Hollowell. He was a retired superintendent with the Chowan Veneer Company. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the southwest Pacific area and was a sergeant in the 81st Infantry Division. He was wounded in the invasion of Peleliu Island and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged in December 1945. Mr. Hollowell was also a member of the American Legion Post 40 and Edenton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hardison Hollowell; two daughters, Cheryl H. Ward and Brenda H. Phelps, both of Edenton; a sister, Barbara H. Way of Decatur, Ga.; two brothers, E.L. Hollowell Jr. of Edenton and Aubrey Hollowell of Belhaven, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Thomas E. Ward, Trent E. Ward and Lindsey N. Phelps, all of Edenton.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Beaver Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Jim Hyatt and the Rev. Gary Stanley. The family will receive friends at the residence of Tom and Cheryl Ward, Route 3, Box 243-D, Donna Drive in Edenton. Williford-Barham Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
