The capital murder trial of Curtis Lorenzo Jones resulted in a hung jury Tuesday after about five hours of deliberation.
Jones, who is out on bond, will be tried again on charges of capital murder, attempted robbery and use of a firearm. No date for the new trial has been scheduled.
Jones, 22, was charged with the Dec. 6, 1993, murder of 23-year-old Jeffrey Flowers in the 2400 block of Hale Street. Flowers was shot once in the chest with a handgun during a robbery attempt, court records show.
The defendant was arrested two days after the murder. Court records show that he claimed he had been to Flowers' house on several previous occasions to buy drugs but that he was innocent of the murder. Jones' alibi defense included a drugstore receipt that purportedly showed he was somewhere other than the murder site when the slaying occurred.
Prosecutors have indicated they are seeking a life sentence.
