Recently WHRO-15 aired a special 90-minute program on Hampton Roads that featured some rare footage of the 1940-1950 events and treasures of the past.
The program was excellent and brought many memories to mind. I can relate to many things of that era as a native who visited Ocean View Park and the Lowe's Theater and rode the Portsmouth and Kiptopeake ferries many times.
To those who remember the Byrd Theater, where I spent many Saturday afternoons, I found one flaw in the program. True, you could have a few hot dogs next door after the movie, but at Bacalis' not Tony's. Tony was there many years which speaks of another Hampton Roads landmark. Tony (``The Hot Dog King'' is gone but not forgotten.
We are grateful to Mike Sinclair and all others who made the WHRO-TV program possible. Thanks for the memories.
