You advocate abolition of the annual state auto inspection law.
Your piece goes on to state that the recommendation by a study group of the governor's Commission on Government Reform gives auto owners credit for common sense enough to keep their vehicles operating safely (the way many of them drive, it doesn't appear they have enough common sense to do anything).
Apparently you are not very observant. Our highways and streets are loaded with rolling wrecks going somewhere to happen. The nuts that hold the wheels simply don't care.
What happens to these people who are too trifling to properly maintain their vehicles, I could care less. The pity of it all is that innocent people, whose vehicles are in safe operating condition, are killed or maimed and their property destroyed.
I'm not foolish enough to believe that most drivers make their own auto safety a priority without state inspections. If the menage runs, they drive it.
Your editorial also states that ``anyone not keeping their vehicles in proper working order could be held responsible in court if involved in an accident.'' That's a little late after someone is killed or crippled for life. We've already got enough of that.
