COURT BUILDING IN HAMPTON GETS BOMB CALL AGAIN

A day after three suspected explosive devices were found in the General District Court Building, the facility was again evacuated Wednesday after a telephoned bomb threat was received.

Nothing was found this time, however.

It was the second time in two days and the fourth time in three weeks that the building has been evacuated for bomb threats. Only on Tuesday had devices been found.

On Wednesday, the Magistrate's Office received a telephone call at 1:30 p.m. warning that a bomb was in the building, said Sgt. Donnie Moore, spokesman for the Hampton Police Department.

Moore said the building was emptied and the Hampton Fire Department responded, along with the Virginia State Police.

The state police used specially trained dogs for an explosives search. When nothing was found, the building was declared clear at 6:35 p.m.

Last week police arrested a 42-year-old man and charged him with making a telephone threat Sept. 6. The man, Elester Williams, also was charged Monday with placing an explosive device in Hampton's Coliseum Mall June 17, when officials evacuated the mall and found an artillery device.

Moore said an investigation into the incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday is under way.
