Maya Scherba and Erin Stubbe of Bayside High School and Allison Pollock of Salem were the 1994 recipients of the Dan Townes Memorial scholarships. The $1,000 grants are given annually to outstanding Virginia Beach students by the Princess Anne Ruritan Club. All three of this year's winners are attending the College of William and Mary.
Pamela Jean Dillahunty, daughter of Magistrate Robert Dillahunty, has been awarded a scholarship from the Virginia Magistrates Association Inc. She will attend Old Dominion University. The association awards scholarships to outstanding students who are dependents of magistrates or members of the organization.
Martha J. Tompkins, administrative assistant and teacher at the Old Donation Center for the Gifted and Talented, recently received a doctorate of philosophy in urban studies from Old Dominion University. She also received the Howard M. Soule Graduate Fellowship in Educational Leadership from Phi Delta Kappa International for her dissertation study.
William E. Hart III has been elected to receive the Lee Harwood Memorial Scholarship for the 1994-95 academic year at the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. The Cox High School graduate is the son of William E. Hart Jr.
Tripp Taylor, a Kellam High School senior, was elected citywide SCA chairman at the 21st annual Virginia Beach Leadership Workshop, held at Virginia Wesleyan College.
The Farm Fresh Charitable Foundation has awarded scholarships to several Virginia Beach high school graduates.
Kimberly Mayo received the Martin B. Berry memorial scholarship, which represented a total of $6,000. She was graduated as co-salutatorian from Tallwood High School and was an honor graduate of the Governor's School for the Arts.
Tonya Allard and Robert Jansen, graduates of Cox High School, and Matthew Smith, a graduate of Kempsville High School, were recognized as the first recipients of the Leaders of Tomorrow scholarships.
Boyce C. Flowe and Catherine Owen McKay of Virginia Beach have received master's degrees from Virginia Tech.
Flowe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Flowe, received a degree in curriculum and instruction. He received a bachelor's degree in music from Old Dominion University in 1991.
McKay's degree is in education/ student personnel. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McKay.
Angenique Nicole Spencer, daughter of Abe and Sebra Spencer, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Ga. She is a 1993 graduate of Tallwood High School.
Scott Graham of McDonald Garden Center became the 1,000th person to become a Virginia Certified Nurseryman by passing the four-hour Virginia Certified Nurseryman test.
Michael D. Roy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Roy of Virginia Beach, has been appointed international recruiting officer for the New England Institute of Technology in Warwick, R.I. He holds advanced degrees in international business from Old Dominion University and George Mason University.
Brooke Maxwell, 15, of Virginia Beach was selected to compete in the Virginia state finals of the Virginia Miss T.E.E.N. pageant in Williamsburg Oct. 1 and 2.
