Glenn B. Thompson, 86, formerly of the 5900 block of Woodgrove Lane, Virginia Beach, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 1994, in the Sentara Nursing Center, Virginia Beach.
Mr. Thompson was born June 20, 1908, in Cherokee, Kan. He was the son of George and Martha Thompson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, worked on the construction of the ALCAN highway in Alaska, and was the owner of Thompson Bulldozing Company. After he was married to L.J. Thompson they resided on a farm at Havana, Kan. Upon retirement they moved to Virginia Beach. He was a member of various farm and conservation groups in Kansas and was a former member of Havana United Methodist Church. In Virginia, he was a member of the United Methodist Men, Community United Methodist Church and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, L.J. Thompson, Sentara Nursing Center; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Claudine and Darrell Patton of Virginia Beach; two granddaughters, Constance Chrismore of Virginia Beach and Cynthia Patton of Philadelphia, Pa.; two great-grandsons, Norman Chrismore III of Virginia Beach and Darrell Chrismore of Norfolk; and nieces and nephews in Kansas, Missouri and California.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 17, 1994, at 2:30 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Walter Whitehurst and the Rev. Ben Hadley-Goggin. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery. Friends may join the family one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Community United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach.
