Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore, will visit Hampton Roads on Saturday to speak with Navy wives and to christen the Navy's newest attack submarine.
Gore will speak at 9 a.m. to the Tidewater Ombudsmen Assembly at the Chamberlin Hotel at Fort Monroe in Hampton. The group represents volunteers who work as liaisons between military families and more than 400 commands in Hampton Roads.
Gore will christen the attack sub Greeneville in ceremonies at 11 a.m. at Newport News Shipbuilding. The event is open to the public.
Gore is scheduled to speak at the christening, along with Navy Secretary John B. Dalton and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jeremy ``Mike'' Boorda.
The submarine was named for a town in Tennessee, the Gores' home state. It is the first Navy ship to bear the name of the city, which honors Revolutionary War Gen. Nathanael Greene.
