WARNER SUFFERS 14-POINT POPULARITY DROP

Sen. John W. Warner's job performance rating has dropped significantly since June but he still has the highest rating of Virginia's top politicians.

Fifty-four percent of the voters polled gave the Republican lawmaker ratings of excellent or good, down from 68 percent in June, according to the Mason-Dixon Political/Media Research Inc. poll.

Despite the drop, Warner's approval rating was nearly 20 points higher than that of Democratic U.S. Sen. Charles Robb.

A pollster attributed Warner's drop to his backing of independent candidate Marshall Coleman.
