ABRAHAM SVIRSKY

Abraham ``Al'' Svirsky, a retired businessman, died Aug. 20, 1994. He was 80 and lived in Hollywood, Fla.

Mr. Svirsky was born in Poland. He left Poland in 1933 as part of a movement of Jewish youth from Eastern Europe and settled in what was then Palestine. He moved to the Norfolk area by way of Canada and New York City. He opened a number of businesses in the Tidewater area, and was the former owner of the Bay Drug Store on Chesapeake Boulevard and the Bay Drug Fair on Little Creek Road.

Mr. Svirsky was a member of the Lions Club, Temple Israel in Norfolk and Temple Emanuel in Virginia Beach.

He is survived by his children, John Svirsky of Richmond, Amy Svirsky Abolafia of Albany, N.Y., and Robin Svirsky Helfan of Cooper City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Anna and Alexandra Svirsky and Jacob Abolafia; and two sisters, Bayleh Levin and Judith Reif of Hertzliah, Israel.

Mr. Svirsky was buried in North Lauderdale, Fla. Donations in his memory can be sent to Beth Shalom Home or the Lions Club.
