Viola Powell, 63, of the 1900 block of Lansing Ave., died Sept. 14, 1994, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mrs. Powell was born in Tarboro, N.C., and was a member and church mother of Philadelphia Church of Christ Disciples, Chesapeake.
Survivors include her husband, Essie Powell Jr.; five daughters, Calton Hicks, Verna Odom, Delores Vinson, Valerie Robinson and Gloria Gray, all of Chesapeake; three sons, Robert Powell of Virginia Beach, Willie Powell of Hampton, Va., and Michael Powell of Portsmouth; a sister, Lillie Ward of Bronx, N.Y.; a stepbrother, Willie Lee Hill of Portsmouth; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Philadelphia Church of Christ Disciples by Bishop James T. Farrow. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Sunday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Monday. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
