A 16-year-old boy was detained Friday night in connection with the sexual assault of an 8-year-old boy behind the Kempsville Recreation Center.
The suspect was being questioned by police late Friday and was expected to be charged, police spokesman Mike Carey said.
The suspect was not identified because of his age and the nature of the crime, Carey said.
The assault occurred Thursday evening in a wooded area near the recreation center. The 8-year-old was lured into the woods behind the center, in the 800 block of Monmouth Lane, by a teenager.
The teenager persuaded the boy to accompany him into the woods by telling the boy he wanted to show him a fort, police said.
Once in the woods, the boy was forced to disrobe and was sexually assaulted, police said.
