Wallace H. Demaurice, meteorologist in charge of the National
Weather Service station at Buxton, says that in the event of a
hurricane threat to the Outer Banks special forecasting crews will
be brought in to Hatteras Island.
Earlier this year, many of the Cape Hatteras forecasters were
transferred to a new Doppler radar weather center near Morehead
City.
``During past hurricane seasons, residents of the Outer Banks
have counted on the Weather Service at Buxton for storm
information,'' Demaurice said.
`This year, while the new facility near Morehead City is still
being organized, we felt it would be reassuring if we brought back
our experienced hurricane teams.''
